The Distillery Historic District  -  November 22, 2023

On a rainy Wednesday November 22, 2023, fifteen Pathfinders and two guests set out on the Go Train to the Distillery Winter Village.  By the time we got off the streetcar the rain stopped so we were able to have a great time.

The Distillery was all decked out for the holidays.  We walked the cobblestone streets where we saw some wonderful sites and shopped in one-of-a kind shops.

A few of the sites we passed were the Angel Wings

As you can see our second (Michael) Angel was a bit camera shy.

“IT” the giant 40-foot spider created by Michael Christian was decorated for Christmas while his snowmen stood guard. “IT” was originally created for the Burning Man festival where people could go to the top to view the horizon

We also saw Peace the word and the symbolic Peace, which is a laser cut, cold rolled steel sculpture inspired by the strength of diversity in our community.  It represents individuals and communities living together in harmony despite our superficial differences, and together we can create something greater than the individual parts.

Margaret, Ann, Pam, Sid, Jonni, Tom, Josie, Sue, Katherine, Elessar, Lynne, Sue S., Nancy, Joe, Ross, Andrea and missing is Michael Stoll the shy Angel.

The “Still Dancing” is a sculpture designed by American sculptor Dennis Oppenheim (1938-2011). The main portion of the sculpture is a 38-foot chimney-like structure.  The top of the chimney leads to the arc of colours, with the lines representing a liquid formation from a distillery.

After a busy morning it was time to head to Mill Street Brewpub and have some lunch.

Then it was time to say so long at the “Big Heart” that stand 14 feet tall and 12 feet wide and is made of hot rolled steel.  It was created as a visual reminder to put love into everything we do.  As one physically travels through the big arch, we are encouraged to reflect on our heart’s desires, and the love we have to share with others.

What a wonder time we had.  Thank you to all who came out!
