DV Heritage & Main Loop. Mon, 24 Feb 2025, 8:45

10 hikers turned out for this 6.6 km M/N hike led by Tom Stephens.

In contrast to the week before, the temperatures were moderate (3-4C) and the snow was well packed. The large amount of yellow snow attested to the presence of earlier dog walkers but we still needed crampons and poles, especially on the challenging hills, of which there were many.

5 hikers took a break at the nearby Trail Centre, and 5 did not. Can you tell who's who? Hint: see below.

The final hill. By this time, there was blue sky -- much better than the rain that was predicted.

Hattie's first lead and she did a fine job. It was a challenge to get through the deep snow, but Hattie had warned us after her pre-hike. All agreed it was (a) beautiful and (b) really hard going, every step being worth two on a normal trail. So we did not feel we were cheating when we turned back at about the halfway point. Hattie, thank you!
